Mike: Yeah, for me too. I think I use all pronouns too.

logically i know modern horses aren't native to the americas like that was a whole Thing but it causes such cognizant dissonance to think of there being wild horses in europe. like that can't be right. there's no fucking cowboys there.

Not sure if you're taking requests or not (I'm a recent, new & immediate follower because of your Viktor fic, so forgive me and accept my loyalty-), so if not just take it as sharing. I realized since I'm so in love with Viktor that i started imitating his accent sometimes on accident, i was wondering what your headcanons be upon his reaction to that, seeing (or hearing) 'reader' interact with people and sometimes sound... *Like him*.
I LOVE THIS BECAUSE I'M THE SAME WAY LOL.... last week when I played a ridiculous amount of league. I was just spamming viktor games with his new arcane savior skin, his voice got stuck in my head. my friend was like: "why do you kind of sound like viktor right now"
vik would definitely notice it immediately, how the cadence you're taking to some of your words is different than usual. but he doesn't really connect the dots until you repeat something he's said before exactly as he said it. he gives you a playful look, punctuated with an eyebrow cocked. he's like, "are you imitating me?" and when you get all nervous and start to apologize, he admits it's fine. he finds it endearing, really

It’s very kind of people I speak other languages with to assume that my slow comprehension and endless requests for repetition are as a result of us not speaking my first language, when in reality, my auditory processing is just complete shit.

this is really interesting to me because bella mentions the philospher's stone, which means that voldemort must have told her about his attempt to get it. which leads me to several questions.
first of all, did voldemort tell bella everything he'd been up to in the past fifteen years? ("uhhh yeah so albania was great fun honestly. have you ever possessed a snake bella? i highly recommend it. really helps blow off steam.")
second of all, was this like a serious debrief, because voldemort found it really important to tell all his inner circle of the interesting rocks he was hiding under for 11 years, or was it more casual, like a friday night gossip sesh over a few glasses of wine?
(the latter is obviously the correct answer. this is the part where they venture into narcissa's garden to find some snakes for bella to try possess. they're all black out drunk and in the morning no one actually remembers if bella succeeded. narcissa weeps because they destroyed all her gorgeous flower beds.)
also ft snape being a petty bitch, bellatrix's shovel talk, and narcissa literally mid breakdown. what a great chapter.

Speaking a language that you've been learning for a while is scary.
Speaking it with a native speaker is freaking terrifying. Especially if you mess up or say something weird or unnatural for the language you are learning. It's such a horrifying and humiliating experience that one sometimes must go through in order to get better and grow. Don't let it put you down or discourage you.

I had her after a rather interesting night with you in Boston#you should introduce yourself :3#oh who's the father? you're the father you forgetful tease. altho i suppose you were drunk enough not to remember our tumble#and pellinore is like THIS CLOSE to blowing up on this woman for lying but now alyne's noticed and is staring silently#with her dark owlish eyes#just WATCHING. analyzing.#and he goes What?????? no. no it cant be. are you certain????????????? No I refuse to believe it come along will henry#alyne's mom is like NO YOU PRICK COME BACK HERE and alyne just goes They'll be back. dead certain#but more importantly look at this fucked up fish i found mom i dont think its native. the fishermen said they're poisonous#does that mean their skin is poisonous or is it just the spikes???#the fishermen said they're more common in the caribbean than in the gulf but now they're in the gulf more#so they're spreading!! isnt that cool???#and alyne's mom cracks open a beer because that encounter was fucked up.

So. I'm taking a gardening cert class through an extension university. Really well written, great flow and presentation of content knowledge, concepts, as well as resources for where to read or how to find other knowledge sources. Great. Lovely.
Anyway it's supposed to run from Dec to March but I procrastinated badly and. I am doing it all in two weeks.
From an educator's perspective, the way I am completing this is Bad and Not Pedagogically Sound. I also just took the entomology quiz without reading any of the materials and got a 100% so :/

maybe its because i was really into kpop & a part of the community prior to QSMP so i always feel the need to wait for context, clarification, or an explanation before deciding how i feel about something a non-english CC says
i truly hope i can say this in a way that makes sense, and in no way do i intend any offense with this, but i feel as though a lot of people within this community, from all sides, need to truly understand that they are consuming and engaging with content and creators that speak a different language than they do. yes, majority of the CCs do speak a common language but the QSMP community needs to realize that they still come from a different part of the world so there are going to be things lost in translation and cultural context that we, as outsiders to that culture, are most likely unaware of until we learn otherwise
so it is even more harmful to immediately jump the gun and harass creators prior to any clarification
should we hold creators accountable? 1000%, absolutely
should we immediately dog pile them for something they said? no
if something makes you raise your eyebrows and instinctively go into 'cancelation mode', its perfectly okay to instead go "hey, what did this creator mean/what is the context?"
as the consumer it is up to you to acknowledge that at times, you will not have all the context, whether situationally or culturally. as the consumer it is up to you to acknowledge that at times, you will be ignorant. while not entirely impossible, it would be incredibly rare for any of us to completely understand the complexities of ALL of the languages and cultures involved at all times.
which leads into why the QSMP is so important: it's bridging the gap between cultures/languages/communities but that gap will be infinitely harder to close if we dont have the patience and humility to acknowledge other viewpoints and experiences of the world and to admit when we dont understand something outside of our own, whether its positive or negative
just because you dont understand something does not mean that your character or allyship is called into question--it simply means that youve encountered something outside your own word experience and is a good opportunity to learn about other parts of the world, other experiences and viewpoints and cultures
and at its core, qsmp is about learning to understand people that are different from you despite any sort of barrier, but you will not come to understand one another if you do not allow the time to ask questions, listen, and allow yourself to be educated on things outside of your own culture & experience
